Touro University California and Kaiser Permanente Hosts First Ever March For Babies Walk On Mare Island Campus
(Vallejo, CA – April 15, 2015) – The Vallejo community is invited to join Touro University California and Kaiser Permanente for its first March of Dimes MARCH FOR BABIES walk, a national fundraiser honoring babies born healthy and those who need help to survive and thrive.
This year’s event – the first to be held in Vallejo - will take place on Sunday, April 19th, at the Touro University California campus. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with race beginning at 9:30 a.m. Parking is available at 1322 Cosset St in Vallejo, adjacent to the campus Library.
“We are very excited to host the March for Babies Fun Walk on our campus, which falls in line with our mission to promote healthy lives in our community and beyond,” said Dr. Marilyn Hopkins, Provost and COO of Touro University California. “Addressing child health challenges is an important cause and we’re pleased to work with Kaiser Permanente to bring awareness in these efforts.”
Students from Touro’s Pediatrics and OBGYN Clubs in the College of Osteopathic Medicine are organizing this inaugural campus event and are excited to demonstrate their support for premature babies.
“When we heard about the possibility of taking on this project, we jumped right on board. It was clear that the Touro University California March of Dimes Fun Walk was directly in line with our values, both as an institution, and in our own personal goals,” said D. Matthew Ortega, the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine/Master of Public Health Dual Degree candidate, and student organizer of the event.
Touro University California invites the community to participate in the event, and learn about premature birth and the organization that are working to eliminate it. Various Touro University California clubs will be participating as well, which will offer information on Osteopathic medicine, public health, pediatrics, and more.
Snacks and beverages will also be provided, along with educational demonstrations, music, raffles, and more.
A $10 donation is suggested for registration. For more information, or to register, visit http://www.marchforbabies.org/team/TUC2015.
